Policy Analyst 224412: evidence of policy development and evaluation
Policy Analyst covers developing and analysing policies that guide government or commercial operations and programs. The work normally turns research, consultation and operational evidence into policy options, briefing papers, recommendations, implementation settings and evaluation findings.
Generic business analysis, academic research, compliance administration or project coordination is not automatically policy analysis. The evidence should identify the policy problem, stakeholders, analysis performed, recommendations made and how the policy was implemented or reviewed.
What the occupation covers
- researching social, economic, regulatory or organisational policy issues;
- consulting stakeholders and analysing evidence or program outcomes;
- developing policy options, briefing papers and recommendations;
- supporting implementation through guidelines, procedures or program design; and
- monitoring and evaluating whether policies achieve their intended outcomes.

Strong employment evidence goes beyond an analyst title. It should show preparation of policy advice, options or recommendations and distinguish the role from Economist, Management Consultant, Organisation and Methods Analyst, Policy and Planning Manager or a research-only position.
