Vocational Education Teachers deliver prescribed vocational courses through TAFE institutes, registered training organisations, community colleges, corporate training centres or workplace programs. The occupation is not a general code for every trainer. University teaching, private tutoring and internal staff-development roles may be classified elsewhere, and the assessing authority changes according to whether the vocational subject is a trade or a non-trade field.

Its guidance requires bachelor-level or higher study relevant to the vocational field or adult and vocational education, together with highly relevant employment. Applicants must identify the courses or units taught, and the teaching should be vocational rather than higher education at bachelor level or above.
For trades vocational teaching, the migration instrument designates TRA instead. The occupation title alone therefore cannot identify the correct authority: applicants should first establish whether the subjects taught are trades or non-trades and then follow the current evidence rules of that authority.
